Boris Tkachenko, Head of the IBLF Branch Office in Russia, YBR Programme Manager, took part in a Youth Business International meeting with YBI President The Prince of Wales on 18 November 2010. At the meeting The Prince spoke about the growing problem of finding ways to help young people start their own business around the world. The Prince, who has worked for many years to raise awareness of the challenge of finding employment for young people, said that the problem of youth unemployment was continuing to grow in many countries. Young people, he said, were being hit disproportionately hard by the economic downturn – but that young entrepreneurs possessed the creativity, drive and determination to help their local economies grow and prosper.

During the event Boris Tkachenko presented to The Prince the oak carved Welsh Dragon produced by YBR program participants fr om Voronezh Region. The Prince enjoyed the present and he was happy with YBR achievements. He discussed with Boris Tkachenko the importance of mentoring for young entrepreneurs and expressed his appreciation to YBR participations – young entrepreneurs from Voronezh Denis Chernykh and Alexander Matukhov and their mentor Yury Segal for presenting such a piece of art produced by them from the wood harvested from sustainable sources.

In his speech the Chairman of YBI Sir Malcolm Williamson said: “Welcome also to Boris Tkachenko. Boris is the programme manager for Youth Business Russia and joins us hot foot from Vladivostok wh ere he presided over the successful launch of Youth Business Russia’s third office two days ago. Boris is accompanied tonight by a mythical creature which has been crafted by Russian young entrepreneurs as a birthday present to our host!”

“The beautiful oak carved Welsh Dragon that will be presented to HRH The Prince of Wales tonight was sculptured by two talented entrepreneurs from the Voronezh Region of Russia. The business of YBR participant Denis Chernykh and his business partner Alexander assisted by their mentor Yuryi Segal started as a hobby and has now grown to have a number of employees. They have secured and delivered on a number of significant local contracts and I’m sure that this wonderful gift will establish their international reputation!” said Andrew Devenport, CEO of Youth Business International.
