The 2013 Summit theme, Business as UNusual, highlighted the approach of YBI network members to solution of the youth unemployment problem and to proprietary business creation issues. “In order to meet the potential for young people to start up their own business, we need to do things differently,” said Chief Executive Officer of YBI Andrew Devenport, “That’s why the theme of the Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit is Business as UNusual”.

The delegates had to tackle a hard task: not to miss the most important amidst the multitude of interesting events; among the persons who delivered speeches to the audience gathered in London were such high-ranking business leaders as Chairman of the Board of Barclays Sir David Walker, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Accenture Pierre Nanterme, founder of The Black Farmer Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, President of the Global Entrepreneurship Week Jonathan Ortmans. In the course of the Summit, special sessions were arranged by such giants as Goldman Sachs, World Bank and BG Group. Additionally, in the course of the Summit the YBI network published the results of a joint study of YBI and Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), an organization studying the role of entrepreneurs in the development of national economies.

The Summit culminated in the reception held in the name of President of YBI network Charles, Prince of Wales, as well as in the traditional YBI award Young Entrepreneur of the Year ceremony which this year was dominated by representatives of the Youth Business India program: crowned as “Entrepreneur of the Year” was Sharad Tandale, the founder of an engineering company; Godavari Satput was awarded the “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year” title, while Mohan Singh became the “Mentor of the Year”. As some competition to the Indian nationals, Nimali Gunawardana from Sri Lanka received the “Start-Up Entrepreneur of the Year” award, and the “Environmental Entrepreneur of the Year” title was given to Karma Yonten (Bhutan).
